| Ryan Camp is a member of the RtE Membership & Outreach
Committee. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 9, 1980 (John
and Sean Lennon's birthday), Ryan started a career in activism in
2001 sparked by the optimism of a brighter future, and the necessity
of bringing progressive values to the state of Indiana. Ryan began
by canvassing with the Citizens Action Coalition, organizing neighborhoods
for clean renewable energy sources and demand side management (efficiency),
and against deregulation, nuclear power of any sort, and the transportation
of radioactive waste. Ryan went on to train and field manage with
CAC for a year and a few months before transferring to the Hoosier
Environmental Council Dec. 2002. At HEC, Ryan has field managed for
a year and Directed for nearly two, recruiting, training, re-training,
and retaining canvassers. Fighting the NAFTA highway/air toxics regulations
as well as proposals to mismanage our National Forests has kept him
busy.
Being the proud father of a beautiful, year-old son has been both
a driver for his passions at work and provides relaxation in his
personal life. Ryans music interests began with the Beastie
Boys and Led Zeppelin at age 8. Ryan comes from a very musical family,
both parents play guitar, piano, and sing for services on Sundays,
while his sister has played multiple wind and string instruments
and also has voice training. Ryan himself began playing the drum
kit when he was 12 and picked up hand drums at 18. Obviously being
a huge part of my life, music inspires and motivates him.
When Ryan is not busy organizing for a cleaner, healthier Indiana,
he enjoys attending festivals, camping, hiking, canoeing, and making
music with friends. His favorite place to be (in the Midwest) is
the Red River Gorge east of Lexington, KY, where his Akita German
Shepherd Mira and he love climbing the Indian staircase.
